Accountability - Life's Secret Weapon

I'll start tomorrow. I'll start after the holidays. I'll start in two weeks. No, seriously. I'll start after vacation. I wish I had help. I feel so unmotivated. When will COVID be over?

We've all been there. Trying to start or more like re-start a goal, only to find yourself not starting at all or giving up within a few weeks or dare I say, days. GUILTY!!! It's a common place I've found myself in many times over. It's hard to get motivated and even harder to stay motivated. So what's the answer? ACCOUNTABILITY!

"Accountability is the glue that ties commitment to the results." ~ Bob Proctor

So how do you hold yourself accountable? It varies by person but I've found personally that sharing my goals with a person, hiring a trainer, or joining a challenge such as 5K Fin-Physique holds me the most accountable.

Most of us would show up to the gym if we committed to a friend we would meet them there. We definitely wouldn't ghost a trainer out of fear of what she/he might makes us to do, to pay for not showing up. And who wants to share to their accountability group or partner that they did not complete a task? Not I. The potential embarrassment alone serves as a motivator.

We might not consistently show up for ourselves, but we tend to show up more frequently for others. An accountability partner or group allows you to do both: Show up for yourself and for others. It's one of the most effective ways to get going and stay going.

So how do you find one?

  • Ask a close friend or relative to be your accountability partner.

  • Join communities, forums, and Facebook groups that pertain to your goal.

  • Create your own accountability group or mastermind.

  • Hire a trainer, coach, or accountability partner.

How do you hold yourself accountable?
