Insurance
Do you have a car? Own a home? Do you rent your home? If you do, then you should have auto, home or renter's insurance. We blindly let our policies renew without checking for better rates, but you could be missing out on hundreds of dollars in savings. Get a fresh quote and you will be surprised. I saved $400 one year by just getting a new quote and switching over to a new insurance policy. And guess what? You don't have to wait until your policy is up for renewal. I won't even ask if you have a cell phone because nowadays even toddlers have their own. So, you know the commercials telling you to switch to a new provider, get a new phone, upgrade, and other perks. Not all plans are created equal but it's good to get the numbers and compare. Even calling your current carrier can get you a better rate. Did you know some companies get discounts that you can receive? That's right, the company you work for might have a discount with one or more provider. Even if you been with your carrier prior to working for your employer, most carriers will apply the corporate discount up to 20% off your plan.
Interest Rates
From auto loans to credit cards, by the time you're 18 years old you have at least one or more of these lines of credit. Ever wonder why your credit card or mortgage balances barely go down? It's that darn interest rate. Most of your payment goes towards the interest on your lines of credit. But there is something you can do if you've been making timely payments. Ask for a lower interest rate. That's right. Call the bank and request a lower interest rate. Banks don't want to lose the money they are making on these lines of credit. They know you can transfer the balance or refinance the loan with another institution. You might get transferred a few times so hang in there, but it will be worth it.
Utilities
At this point, you are probably noticing a common theme. Everything is negotiable and I mean everything. Think of your various utility bills: water, electric, gas, trash, cable, internet to name a few. There is a reason you receive unsolicited postcards from other companies on a daily basis. They want your business and are willing to give you a lower price. At the same time, your existing company doesn't want to lose you as a customer. The easiest thing to do is call your existing company and tell them you want to cancel. Soon you'll be transferred to the retention/cancellation department. From there you can negotiate a lower and if you're not satisfied take your business and money elsewhere. You have more power than you realize.
Balance Transfers
Previously I mentioned asking your credit card issuer for a lower interest rate but even better, why not transfer your balance to a 0% APR credit card. You can transfer multiple high interest cards to a 0% APR credit card for little to no fee and the interest rate is 0% from 9 to 15 months depending on the credit card company. This is hundreds of dollars saved.
I only mentioned a few ways to earn $1000 fast but there are so many more. From selling items you no longer use like furniture, clothes, and evens books. I recently looked up my son's old textbooks and will receive $137 back. I did not even mention coupons, rebates, rewards, or surveys. You know that fast food restaurant you frequent or the coffee you just can't go without. Just by downloading the app and using it to capture your purchases and pay, you'll earn rewards that can be used toward future purchases. Definitely, don't let your service go to waste. Most companies give military, teachers, and first responders discounts. They might not advertise it but if asked they will knock off 5-10%.
